Power user used friend’s identity: An Elgin man was charged with Class 3 felony identity theft on Monday after allegedly setting up his home’s ComEd service account in the name of a friend, and then not paying the bill for months. According to police reports, the victim knew Juan Cortez-Neva, 43, of the 200 block of Triggs Avenue, because they used to work together and ride together to their workplace. The victim told police that last year, Cortez-Neva told him a snow-removal firm was hiring people, so the victim gave Cortez-Neva a job application form listing the victim’s name, birth date and Social Security number. Then, the victim told police, he recently received a notice from a collection agency that he owed $487 in unpaid bills for electrical service to the address where Cortez-Neva lives.Aggravated DUI: Jose L. Perez, 34, of the 600 block of Ford Avenue, Elgin, was charged with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated driving under the influence, third violation, as well as three Class 4 felony counts of aggravated DUI and driving on a revoked or suspended license following an arrest Tuesday. Bail was set at $150,000, and he was given an Oct. 4 court date.

Marijuana charges: Ruben A. Munoz, 19, of the 700 block of Jackson Street, Elgin, was charged with a Class 4 felony count of manufacture or delivery of cannabis, 10 to 30 grams, and a misdemeanor charge of manufacture or delivery of cannabis stemming from a July 30 incident. Bail was set at $10,000, and he was given an Oct. 2 court date.
