People in Lancashire are being urged to learn more about a special cancer charity which is holding an awareness week from September 23 to 29.

Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) is a devastating hidden cancer which has spread but its origin cannot be identified, and to treat cancer successfully doctors need to identify the primary site.

About 10,000 people in the UK each year receive this bewildering and frightening diagnosis.

National charity, the CUP Foundation - Jo’s friends, which was set up in memory of Jo Symons of Brockham, Surrey, who died from CUP in September 2006 just after her 46th birthday, has organised the awareness week as part of its campaign for more research and to provide information and support to patients, their families and carers.

The awareness week aims to make 10 times more people aware of the disease. This involves supporters each selling 10 CUP lapel badges for £1 and pointing people to the charity’s website,
