Richland County Council has ordered new lapel pins to hand out to visitors.
The old design has been in use for more than seven years, clerk Michelle Onley said.
The county ordered 1,000 of the new, larger and shinier pins, which cost $1.35 each, from Centrex Promotions last week.
While there’s no set policy on who’s eligible to get them, council members keep a stash for visitors – from children to dignitaries.
“We don’t have a key. We give people a lapel pin,” said chairman Kelvin Washington, who said he suggested it was time for an update.
The pins should arrive in four to six weeks, spokeswoman Melinda Edwards said.
